The Met Gala always promises surprises when it comes to guest appearances.

This year's event, themed "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," marked the return of Demi Lovato to fashion's grandest night after an eight-year absence.

Lovato graced the red carpet in a striking Prabal Gurung gown, captivating onlookers with their ensemble.

This appearance at the Met Gala marks Lovato's first since their debut in 2016. It's worth noting that Lovato prefers she/they pronouns.

The "Heart Attack" singer shared her candid thoughts with Billboard regarding her experiences at the prestigious Met Gala, an event that serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.

Describing the occasion as "terrible" and "cliquey," Lovato highlighted the challenges she encountered during her time at the event.

"I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink," she revealed, reflecting on her struggle with addiction, which she has been open about.

On the night of her first Met Gala attendance, Lovato made a unique choice: she went straight from the event to a 10 p.m. Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. "I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting. And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala," she shared with Billboard.

However, this year marked a different experience for the former Disney star. "I feel amazing," she told E! News on the red carpet, indicating her readiness to reenter the scene.

When asked about her feelings on her way to the Met stairs, she admitted to being "a little bit nervous, a little anxious, but ultimately excited."

Lovato also disclosed that she is currently working on new music, a follow-up to her 2022 album. "I’m in the studio right now working on new music," she said, adding that it will hopefully be released "in the near future ... music is on the way."
